The Barjasta is a combination of pile rug and flatweave kilim, made with a distinctive cut and loop style flat weave with part piled areas. The dying technique of the wool is completely natural using the ‘madder root’ (heather like plant which creates the deep reds). The red yarns are combined with natural undyed yarns to create an interesting combination of colours and surface textures. Barjasta Kilim rugs have been prized by rug collectors for many years due to its subtle design elements. The evidence of its nomadic provenance and natural materials adds extra charm.
