The word kilim describes any flat-woven textile where the pattern is created entirely by interlacing colored wool threads, producing a graphic, tapestry-like surface with no pile. In a Mashwani, sections of flat weave and raised pile alternate across the surface, creating a three-dimensional texture and visual depth that a standard Kilim simply cannot achieve. It takes more skill and more time to weave, and the result is unlike anything else in the handmade rug world.

We also carry hand-woven Turkish kilims, known for their bold Anatolian geometric patterns of diamonds, stars, zigzags, and stylized tribal symbols, each one carrying meaning that weavers encoded into the textile over centuries of practice.

They are the signature of wool dyed in small batches by hand, and they give each piece a depth and warmth that machine production cannot replicate.
