Brown Rugs | Hand-Knotted Brown Wool Rugs

Brown in hand-knotted rugs covers a wide spectrum, from pale camel and warm tan through to rich chocolate, dark walnut, and deep tobacco tones. In Afghan weaving traditions, brown is often achieved using walnut husks, oak galls, or pomegranate skins, producing earthy tones with a warmth that synthetic brown dyes consistently fail to match. Natural brown wool from certain Afghan sheep breeds is also used directly without dyeing, giving these rugs their characteristic organic depth.

Brown-ground rugs are particularly well suited to rooms with natural materials, wood floors, leather furniture, stone or brick, where the earthy palette reinforces rather than competes with the existing warmth. Tribal styles including Baluchi, Khal Mohammadi, and Gabbeh rugs feature heavily in this collection. For sizing help see our rug size guide. Browse related styles: Baluchi rugs and Gabbeh rugs.
