Truly white hand-knotted rugs are rare in traditional Oriental weaving; natural wool is never pure white, and achieving a clean white ground requires either bleaching or the use of the palest undyed fleece available. The white and off-white rugs in this collection tend toward warm white, natural white, and very pale ivory tones that come from selected high-altitude Afghan wool or lightly processed Pakistani fleece. These rugs have a clean, fresh quality while retaining the warmth and texture that only natural wool pile provides.
White and near-white rugs work best in rooms with plenty of natural light, where the pale ground reflects the changing quality of daylight throughout the day. They suit contemporary, Scandinavian, and coastal interior styles particularly well. For care guidance on pale-ground rugs see our rug care guide. For sizing help see our rug size guide.
